Staff Regulations

Staff Regulations

Realms of Echoes (also referred to as “RoE”) is a Minecraft roleplaying community. Our server and community are operated by a group of volunteers called Staff. Staff are responsible for a wide variety of tasks. These guidelines are designed to set the boundaries and expectations for the behavior of our staff. These regulations exist to ensure fairness, responsibility, and reliability from everyone. Respecting these guidelines will help ensure that our entire player base has a positive, safe, and productive experience.

Server Rules Policy:

Staff on RoE are required to adhere to all rules and regulations in the community. Staff are always required to obey the ToS, Privacy Policy, and all United States laws. Staff may be exempted from certain Minecraft Rules when:

  • A rule exemption for Staff is written.
  • Staff work requires overstepping the rule.
  • A Team Lead or Administrator has approved an exemption.

Moderators may ignore roleplay spying rules when investigating rule violations. This exemption may extend to other staff when they are assisting the Moderator (such as with lore and build violations).

Staff Structure

The staff system is briefly outlined here. A more in-depth description of the teams and their responsibilities is located in the "Staff Applications & Information" post. The staff structure is subject to change and certain roles may be left vacant when there isn’t a need for them to be filled.

Staff Hierarchy

Admins (including the Host) are in charge. They are responsible for operating the community in all aspects. Admins may conduct the work of any staff position at any time.

Team Leads are experienced staff members given the responsibility of a leadership role on their team. They may be asked to mentor and train new members, oversee large projects, and review applications.

Staff are the heart of their team. They are assigned regular duties and projects, and are responsible for keeping the wheels turning.

Helpers are temporary staff members assisting with specific projects. They usually do not have permissions in-game, but may on a case-by-case basis.

Staff Expectations

The work and conduct of staff is defined in general terms. We aim to respect individual circumstances, special projects, and the state of the community. Violations of these expectations will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Our hope is to create an environment where staff can work together, feel comfortable being honest, develop a skill for their work, and foster a personal desire to help and better the entire community.

Team Handbooks

Staff teams may maintain a handbook. These documents are designed to more precisely define a team’s responsibilities. They also explain each rank’s in-game permissions and how to use them. These documents may also implement more specific rules, applicable to that team only. Staff members are required to obey the rules in this guide as well as in their team's handbook.

Professionalism

Staff occupy a position of responsibility and authority. It is vital that they strive to be professionals. Patience, understanding, empathy, and diligence are required to this end. These traits should be fostered on a daily basis. Treat every player like your neighbor, and strive to help them to the best of your ability. Treat your fellow staff members like allies, and strive to support them.

  1. Do not demean, insult, or spread misinformation about anyone.
  2. Do not show bias or act on bias. Treat everyone with equity and respect.
  3. If you accept a project or respond to a help request, always complete the task. Do not leave objectives incomplete. Ask for help if you cannot complete a claimed task.
  4. Treat this place like home. Do the best you can; all we ask is that you try. If you see something is wrong, attempt to fix it or pass it off to someone who can.

Communication

Proper conversation is necessary for staff work to be successful. To this end, staff are expected to be able to communicate both over text and voice chat. Your communication should be concise, easily understood, and complete. Do not elaborate needlessly, use fancy language, or skip over important facts.

  1. RoE is an English-language-based server. Please ensure you can communicate properly in the English language.
  2. Ensure you exercise patience when assisting someone whose first language is not English.
  3. Present a unified face when engaging with the community. Do not contradict, harm, or oppose a staff decision or policy.

Activity Minimums

RoE generally does not have strict activity requirements. Most teams and projects do not have activity paperwork, minimum requirements, or points systems. Instead, it is the responsibility of the team Admin and Staff Leads to keep everyone on track and ensure objectives are being completed.

  1. Do not take advantage of the lack of activity tracking. Staff is a volunteer position. If you choose to volunteer, you are expected to help out.
  2. Do not do the bare minimum to appear active. We strive for excellence and to provide great experiences to our community. This goal requires effort and a desire to do the right thing.
  3. If you no longer have the time to help out, consider taking an extended hiatus or stepping down. You can always re-apply at a later date.

Confidentiality

As a member of staff, you may encounter private information or discussions about projects that are ongoing. It is important to always protect a player’s private information. Sharing the details of an ongoing discussion may inadvertently mislead a player, or create expectations for something that may get changed or scrapped.

  1. Never share someone’s personally identifiable information (PII) unless you have their explicit written permission.
  2. Never share the details of an ongoing staff discussion.
  3. Never share the details or evidence of disciplinary action. If a player requests information, forward them to an Admin for assistance.

Anti-Corruption

Staff exists to serve the community and its playerbase. They should be supportive, approachable, trustworthy, and reliable. Staff members who abuse their in-game permissions, take advantage of their authority for personal gain, or who lie and mislead create a culture of frustration and distrust that harms the entire community.

  1. Do not flaunt your position as staff. Do not boast about your in-game permissions. Do not use your rank or title to manipulate others.
  2. Do not use your in-game permissions to create mechanical or roleplay advantages for yourself or any player.
  3. If possible, avoid claiming tickets or responding to staff requests when the player is a close personal friend. Recuse yourself and pass the request off to another staff member.

Rule Violations and Staff

Staff are expected to set a high quality standard for the community. Therefore, staff members are held to a higher standard of behavior. Staff members who violate the Server Rules may receive more severe disciplinary action. They may also face removal from staff and a blacklist from joining staff in the future.

Activity Updates

In the interest of transparency and to provide regular updates, Administration will publish a monthly or bi-monthly report about what everyone has been working on. This report will include general information, specific projects, and may honour specific staff members’ accomplishments.

Public Disciplinary Action

In the interest of transparency and community safety, Administration may publicize the reason why a certain player was removed from the community. These publications will not contain explicit evidence, personally identifiable information (PII), or other inappropriate details. Administration may share ban details with other MCRP communities where it is pertinent to do so.
