STORY
· · ────── ꒰ঌ·✦·໒꒱ ────── · ·
The whistle of wind; the heavy crash of thunder within the skies and the rainfall that threatened a flood roused the woman from her slumber. The makeshift shelter of branches, foliage and fabric were no match- and she lay drenched within the mud.
It had been in the air the night prior, heavy clouds lingered above the canopy of the overgrown woodland but, she had thought, the wind would cut her some slack.. Surely.
A glance cast over her temporary campsite concluded what she already assumed. There was no more rest to be had. She was halfway through her journey- so she may as well just continue on. Footsteps began through the mud, digging their way through each step to ensure she did not slip and fall. It had been months since she had set out for the Azure Order and she was very, so nearly there. “A few more weeks,” the woman breathed, as she paced ever forward into the sunrise.

“Some things never change..” an idle laughter filled the hall of the Orders entryway, as Pia and several other members idled. One individual made a gesture to her cloak, which had seen better days. “You can afford better,” the woman spoke, “you need to look the part, if you are eventually going to find a teacher.”
“I did not ask for your opinion,” Pia quipped back swiftly, “The Order has bigger worries than my attire. Namely, the grave attitude of some of its higher ranked members, no?”
The individual scoffed, her lavish, almost ethereal robes flourished as she turned upon her heel to leave. “Thought so” Pia added under her breath.
True enough, Pia had resided within the Orders keep for a month or so now and was still without a teacher. She yearned to learn something new, or to simply find some mundane task to occupy herself. She dismissed herself to her room, and settled in at her desk.

“Ma died,” the words came cold in tone, with not even a shred of emotion accompanying them. Pia glanced ahead- a girl of only ten- peered over the lake. Despite her tender age, she felt no sorrow. “Wha’er we do now?”
The other- a taller woman of about eighteen rose to her feet and shrugged her shoulders. “You have your belongings. You should find somewhere ta be. Is not any point in staying here,” a lanky hand gestured outward over the water, “nothin’ but farmland here. Find something ya want to do.”
Pia furrowed her brow. Deep down she knew she wasn’t wanted here. A sibling to seven others, to an ill mother and already deceased father. She was the youngest, and her parents were older. Her siblings saw her as a burden and, she had practically raised herself as soon as she was able. Pia drew a dirty arm over her face to wipe her nose and eyes; a trail of dried mud drew a path over her already dirty face.
But that eve she made good on her sisters order, and collected all that she had into her bag. The village was not far, Pia recalled as if to give herself some sort of direction, and she would find some food, or a room there.
