- Venerate Conciliators & Storytellers of the Sunlit Path -
Heraldic Device of the House of Cerunelith
The House of the Cerunelith is an orderly house of Eldrini Elves consisting of descendants and followers of Soltharis, the God of Sun, Tides, and Order. While the Cerunelith are imposing in stature and demeanor, they are not distinguished by their martial prowess compared to that of their Eldrini cousins. Instead, this bloodline is renowned for its remarkable intelligence and exceptional diplomatic acumen.
I ORIGINS.
Cerunelith the Fabler was a humble traveler who roamed the seas beneath the sun’s warmth. The stories he collected and weaved were so engraved with mystery that it was often challenging to decipher fact from fiction. It was throughout this time that Cerunelith wandered and encountered the vexation that was the Eight Year Peril.
During one of Cerunelith’s many island ventures, he was compelled to gaze days on end into the sun as a testament of devotion to Soltharis. While those who challenged the Elf knew well that such a spectacle would impair young Cerunelith, the man himself was zealous. In doing so, Cerunelith was blinded not by the sun, but by the very brigands who subjected him to these trials. Though many would perceive the blinding of Cerunelith as a punishment from the Old God, Cerunelith on the other hand saw it as a profound gift. He viewed it as an omen, new found perspective granted on the realm with the art of storytelling to be his guide.
***
Succeeding the Great Despair, Gale, under his new found Guardianship of the House, established and named it Cerunelith in honor of his father’s mark. Gale claimed that it is Cerunelith who exemplifies and illustrates the embodiment of what it means to be of this bloodline. To humble oneself, serve the Old God, and tell tale of the ancestors' story is to cut and bleed a Cerunelith.
The Cailunmirian people avoid engaging in the realm’s politics and disputes – such being one of the tenets followed by the Creed of the Avowed. Instead, they focus on their duties under the guidance of the Old God. Despite their oaths and commitments to these tenets, occasional conflict has bound to rise among their kindred, as is common in any society. Thus, mediators and the like became required responsibilities of many Elves.
Throughout the years, predating the Great Despair even, those of the Cerunelith bloodline have notoriously brought peace amongst the fold. In scripture, by the fire, and through their weavings, have the Cerunelith shown empathy and deeper respect for perspective; all of which symbolizes that of the blind eye of their ancestor. These triumphs brought recognition to the House, both due to their well-born ancestry, and the righteous path was the House declared Elder within society. During this period, Guardianship was transferred to Uriel after the death of his father, Gale of Cailunmire – Ascended within the Sunlit Realm.
II HOMELAND.
Those of the Cerunelith bloodline occupy a portion of Cailunmire’s higher class society. While humble, and not considering themselves nobility, the Cerunelith family takes the mantle for the civilization’s conciliators. A series of smaller manors within the marbled, golden halls make home for the Cerunelith. Unlike their cousins, they do not require aides or servants, and find themselves rather self-sufficient in their living quarters.
III BELIEFS & PERSONALITY.
From the earliest days of the Cerunelith’s, those within the bloodline have been stout servants and believers of the Old God, Soltharis the Sun. Cerunelith, unlike most of their modern-day cousins, perceive and worship their God with respect. Many struggle to do so without sheer fear that had been instilled in society, and in servitude to their Gods during and prior the Great Despair. Yet while the Cerunelith were once afflicted by this same perspective, they still venerated Soltharis which was unconventional.
While driven by their profound reverence to the Old Gods, Cerunelith Elves’ temper is quelled by the very waning tides. They rarely raise their voice, and are hardly found creating disruptions or casting judgements. In contrast, they are level headed, tame with their tongue, and intelligently curious individuals who seek to learn and share what they have learned with their cousins, and those they meet. Some Cerunelith occupy educational positions, others are humble storytellers, librarians, simple craftsmen, or most notably do they take up leadership positions within the higher councils as mediators.
IV APPEARANCE.
One of the most prominent features of a Cerunelith is their brunette hair, in pattern akin to that of ocean waves. Many often braid pieces of their hair, and have them adorned with golden clasps. Their eyes are colored hazel-green and others starkly dull, pale blue. Even though Cailunmire consists of a range of Elven subraces, Cerunelith are much like the majority of the population with sunkissed, tanned skin of a Woad Elf. Their cheeks typically are stippled with freckles.
Unlike their Highborn Elven counterparts, Cerunelith are average stature; males as tall as six foot and 2 inches, while females may reach five feet and 11 inches. Their stature is athletic, built for swimming, traveling long distances, or directly sails in stormy winds.
Those of the bloodline don garments weaved and dyed in shades of blue, green, and white. Their robes, gowns, or tunics are typically patterned and dressed with sashes, vests, or other complimentary pieces. Often Cerunelith wear jewelry made of gemstones from the sea or desert sides.
Aside from their notable hair and eyes, Cerunelith are marked with various tattoos - though two are specifically ritualistic to their people.
The appearance of a half-marked, blue face is granted and is a symbol of Elderhood. Those who reach the age one hundred are celebrated within the House through a ritual and receive their marking to depict a status of deeper respect, and honor for their service in the realm. On the opposing side, the dual wave marking is given to those who are not only ordained in the Creed of the Avowed, but have made a treacherous journey and feat – one in the name of Soltharis. Both of these markings serve as means of storytelling in themselves, forever painting their bodies with a piece of what they had endured in life.
