Velkan's life began in the shadowed depths of the underground caverns, born to the Duhnmar—dwarves who embraced the solitude and harshness of life beneath the surface. However, his early memories are but a blur, for he was abandoned as a child, deemed unfit to contribute to the relentless survivalist society of the Duhnmar. His pale grayish skin uncommon luminous eyes marked him as one of the rock dwarves, but fate had other plans. It was a Haldrekkan mining company that discovered the abandoned child during one of their expeditions into the depths. Moved by a rare moment of compassion, they took him in, bridging two vastly different Dwumar cultures in one small, resilient body.
Growing up among the Haldrekkan miners and smiths, Velkan was immersed in a culture steeped in honor, loyalty, and unparalleled craftsmanship. Despite being an outsider by birth, he was treated with respect and given every opportunity to prove his worth. The Haldrekkan, known for their reverence for ancestors and sacred traditions, instilled in Velkan a sense of pride and purpose. He learned the art of mining, smithing, and the intricate skills of stone carving that his Duhnmar heritage naturally inclined him towards. Naturally his “family” thought it was important that he was being taught about different minerals & ores and how to gather them properly, so they made it a point to study everything he could about Moonstone, Crystalite Vein, Aether Pyrite, Athon Iron, Athon Tin, Athon Silver, Athon Lead, Athon Gold, Jade-Iron, Tungsten, Blue Titanite and Wyrmsteel, wishing maybe one day he would be able to gather & work with some of these intriguing materials. Over the decades, Velkan made it a point to hone his abilities, dreaming of one day becoming a master craftsman and earning a place of respect among his Haldrekkan peers.
During a particularly treacherous mining expedition, Velkahn encountered an expert spellcrafter hired to ward the tunnels against the dangers lurking within. Intrigued by her mastery of magical runes and their practical applications, Velkahn spent every moment observing and learning from her. The Spellcrafter’s seamless blend of magic and resourcefulness sparked a new dream: to one day become a spellcrafter himself. Inspired by this encounter, Velkahn envisioned a future where he could revolutionize the traditional Haldrekkan crafts by integrating spellcraft, and merging ancient techniques with cutting-edge magic.
